The NPAT exam is a 120-minute (2-hour) computer-based test designed to evaluate candidates’ aptitude for undergraduate programs in management, commerce, economics, liberal arts, and other professional courses offered by NMIMS. The exam does not have sectional time limits, allowing candidates to navigate freely between sections during the test. NPAT is divided into three key sections:
Quantitative & Numerical Ability (QA): This section tests mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities across topics such as Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Probability, Data Interpretation, and Statistics. The questions are application-based and focus on logical and numerical reasoning rather than rote memorization.
Reasoning & General Intelligence (LR): This section evaluates a candidate’s analytical and logical thinking skills through questions on critical reasoning, puzzles, blood relations, series, coding-decoding, direction sense, and pattern recognition. It often features both verbal and non-verbal reasoning sets.
Proficiency in English Language (English): This section assesses English usage, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. It includes Reading Comprehension passages, Grammar-based questions, Error Spotting, Sentence Completion, Synonyms/Antonyms, and Para Jumbles.
Question Types and Marking Scheme
The NPAT exam consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each carrying one mark. There is no negative marking for incorrect responses, which encourages candidates to attempt all questions.
The exam is conducted across multiple sessions, and since students can choose slots, percentile scores are generated to ensure fairness. The test is considered to be of moderate difficulty level, focusing more on speed, accuracy, and time management rather than highly advanced concepts.
Educational Qualification:
• Must have passed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent exam from a recognized board.
• Minimum 50% aggregate marks required (for BBA, B.Com, and other management programs).
• Candidates awaiting Class 12 results are also eligible.
Age Limit:
• Maximum age: 25 years
Streams Accepted:
• Students from Arts, Commerce, and Science can apply.
• For some courses (like B.Sc. Finance / BBA), Mathematics or Statistics at Class 12 is compulsory.
